Alopecia areata is one of the most common hair loss disorders characterized by loss of hair in small, coin-sized, round patches of baldness on the scalp, although hair elsewhere such as the beard, eyebrows, eyelashes, body and limbs can be affected ,too. It may develop at any age.
Dr. Dr. Khakshaee will assess the condition and advises suitable treatment regimen to each one of his patients. This condition can resolve on its own or can be treated with topical or steroid injections.
Steroid injections are used as a treatment for improving alopecia areata condition. Steroid injections work for hair loss that occurs when the body’s own immune system starts fighting hair follicles. The immune system should normally be fighting infections. However in some hair loss disorders, the immune system fights the hair follicle which causes hair loss to occur. Steroids can counteract to stop the immune system from harming the hair follicles.
