Moles are generally benign lesions that you may wish to remove for cosmetic reasons. They may interfere with wearing eyeglasses or jewellery or may even bleed whenever you shave or touch. The most appropriate removal technique depends upon the type, colour, and location of the mole itself.

Mole removal is a painless procedure that Dr. Khakshaee conducts under local anesthesia at AK Care. In lots of cases, a biopsy or sampling is done to make sure that the mole is a benign condition and does not require a different treatment.

Before embarking on any treatments, AK Care recommends to have a one to one consult with Dr. AK or our aesthetician. During this session skin and facial assessment will be done. Mutual decision is made as to what treatments can be done. As you all may know, medical and cosmetic skin care is overlooked in lots of people.

Home regimen remedies and professional treatments are routinely needed based on your skin type, colour, ageing and expectation. We ensure that all our patient stay happy and satisfied in their skin.

Pre-Procedure Care

  • Clean your skin prior to the procedure. Don’t put any perfume or skin care product on the affected area where the mole tags are located.
  • Don’t pick on your mole tags. Picking can cause the mole tag to become inflamed, irritated, or infected.
  • Protect your skin from sun exposure. Keep away from sun exposure as much as possible to keep mole tags from becoming too obvious.

Post-Procedure Care

  • Clean your wound two times a day with antibacterial soap and water. If the wound was closed with sutures, follow your doctor’s aftercare instructions regarding whether you can get your wound wet.
  • Apply an antibiotic ointment to your wound after cleaning, and then cover with a sterile bandage.
  • Take over-the-counter pain relievers, such as ibuprofen, as needed. Discomfort following mole removal is typically mild and highly tolerable.
  • Avoid scratching or rubbing your wound during recovery. As your wound heals, it may itch. Keeping the area moist with a thin layer of petroleum jelly (Vaseline) will help relieve the itching.

FAQ

You are invited to find our up to date answers to some of your questions about services offered at AK Care. We will be happy to meet with you in person for more specific inquiries.

What is a mole?

A mole is a cluster of skin cells — usually brown, black, or skin tone — that can appear anywhere on your body. They usually show up before age 20. Most are benign, meaning they’re not cancerous.

How Do I Find Out if a Mole Is Cancerous?

First, Dr AK will take a good look at the mole. If he thinks it’s not normal, he’ll either take a tissue sample or remove it completely.

Dr AK will send the sample to a lab to be looked at more closely. This is called a biopsy. If it comes back positive, meaning it is cancerous, the entire mole and area around it need to be removed to get rid of the dangerous cells.

How Is It Done?

Mole removal is a simple kind of surgery. Normally Dr AK will do it in his office. He’ll likely choose one of two ways:

  • Surgical excision. Dr AK will numb the area. He’ll use a scalpel or a sharp, circular blade to cut out the mole and some healthy skin around it. He’ll stitch the skin closed.
  • Surgical shave. This is done more often on smaller moles. After numbing the area, Dr AK will use a small blade to shave off the mole and some tissue beneath it. Stitches aren’t usually needed.

Are There Any Risks?

The biggest risk after surgery is bleedingm infection and scar. Carefully follow instructions to care for the wound until it heals. This means keeping it clean, moist, and covered.

Sometimes the area will bleed a little when you get home, especially if you take meds that thin your blood. Start by gently holding pressure on the area with a clean cloth or gauze for 20 minutes. If that doesn’t stop it, call your doctor. If you see more redness, pus discharge or if your wound is not healing, you will need to contact us. We do our best to give you no scars; however, scar formation is multifactorial and may be unpreventable at times.

What will the area look like after the skin mole is removed?

The treatment area will likely scab over in the days following the procedure. After the scab falls off, you may notice slight imperfections in the skin. But they will hardly be noticeable to others.
